Welcoming my man Tim Koskuba back to the UCR site with another great contribution right up my alley that The Challenge is the unofficial fifth sport.  Tim is back with this blog post comparing some of the competitors from The Challenge: Battle of the Seasons to their NFL counterpart or doppelganger if you'll have it.  I will be back at the end of the week with a new podcast breaking down episodes 3 & 4 and have very interesting guests lined up. Thanks again to Tim Koskuba for helping to keep the pulse beating here on UCR and hope you enjoy and comment on this post.  - Derrick

Watch "MTV: The Challenge" Wednesday's at 10/9c.
Watch the NFL Thursday, Sunday, Monday

The end of the summer/the start of the fall marks the beginning of two of the country's favorite sports, the NFL and MTV's “The Challenge”. To me, Sundays are devoted to football, unhealthy snacks, and trying to get Matthew Berry to answer my fantasy football questions on Twitter. Wednesdays are very similar. It's a countdown to 10 pm ET, a few less unhealthy snacks, and trying to virtually hit on Emily Schromm, Cara Maria, and Sarah on Twitter. These are a just a few of the many similarities between 'The Challenge' and the NFL. Let's look at some of the Challengers and their NFL counterparts...

The new season of 'The Challenge' premieres Wednesday, September 19 at 10/9c.

Ten years ago, the fifth ever season of “The Challenge” debuted on MTV. It featured guy/girl pairs, each from a different season of “The Real World” or “Road Rules”. It included such Challenge power-players as Mike “The Miz”, Coral, Theo, Timmy, Veronica, and it was even hosted by Eric Nies and the Godfather, Mark Long. A decade plus later, MTV has brought back the “Battle of the Seasons”, but this time it will focus solely on a collection of reuniting Real-Worlders. On paper, it certainly doesn't look to have the star-power as it's predecessor (as bluntly pointed out by Challenge superstar, Johnny Bananas), but as with most Challenges, it still has some intriguing storylines to explore.

As we end our Challenge Madness Tournament and with the NBA playoffs on the horizon we present this timely comparison piece from friend and podcast guest Tim Koskuba. Hope you enjoy the read and feel free to hit the comments section below the post. Make sure to give Tim a twitter follow @KO_Skuba, can't thank him enough. --D

"The Challenge: Battle of the Exes" has concluded and what ESPN's Bill Simmons calls "the fifth major sport" will go on it's familiar offseason. While the wondrous minds at Bunim-Murray contemplate the next insane Final and craft the dysfunctional roster for the newest season of "The Challenge", the NBA playoffs will get underway and take the spotlight in the sports world. Millions will watch to see stars like Lebron James, Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant, and Dwight Howard try to reach greatness and capture the NBA championship. While these are two different sports, two different kinds of athletes, and two very dissimilar audiences, I can't help but notice many similarities between a few of the biggest NBA superstars and some of the Challenge's greatest competitors...

Newcomer John Cholish like a "sponge" around guys like George St.Pierre, Frankie Edgar, and Kenny Florian. Cholish prepared for UFC debut at UFC 140 on December 10, 2011.

John Cholish stops by Ultimate Challenge Radio to talk about his first ever fighting debut in the UFC at UFC 140 headlined by Light Heavyweight Champion Jonny "Bones" Jones, or as I like to call him-"Weapons of Mass Destruction," VS. Former Champ Lyoto Machida. John Cholish, an exciting young fighter, keeps The Derrick Kosinski Podcast action packed by giving UCR an idea of what it'll be like to fight the Canadian Mitch Clarke in his hometown of Toronto. Cholish walks us thru the mindset of pre-fight notions as he approaches the toe-to-toe face-off with his opponent. John walks us from his wrestling career starting at the age of 4 years old to the day he starts to taper off for his 1st fight into the UFC. He gives us a fighters perspective of weather or not he hates his opponents, weather or not he wants to maul them when their fist touch gloves, the difficulty of working an everyday job and a rigorous workout regimen. John also gives a small view of what it's like to attain as much information s possible around champions like Frankie Edgar, George St.Pierre, and Kenny Florian. Watch out for John Cholish as he gets UFC 140 rockin' on FACEBOOK.

To access the preliminary-card stream, viewers must visit the UFC'S official Facebook profile (www.facebook.com/ufc) and push the "Like" button for the page.

The UFC first began streaming select fights live on Facebook at this past January's "UFC Fight Night 23: UFC Fight for the Troops 2" event.

Derrick Kosinski Podcast "The Lost Tape" w/ Tim Koskuba

"The Lost Podcast"

In this cast I am interviewed by Tim Koskuba @KO_Skuba, the same guy who interviewed Jonny "Bones" Jones 2 years ago and predicted Mr.Bones' UFC Light Heavy Weight Championship.

This podcast was recorded in March of 2011. I've been waiting for the right time to release it as Real World:Back to Las Vegas and The Challenge: Rivals had stolen the spotlight. This Interview couldn't come with more ironic magic. Just the other day, one of my challenge cast mates decided to personally tweet me and embellish about a dance we once had in The Duel.

In this interview, a question about Wes comes up and I, in return, finally express my true thoughts about this guy. At the same time, the same guy who has interviewed and predicted a future championship for Jonny "Bones" Jones interviews me and asks me the tough questions. Jon Jones will be defending his title for the 1st time vs. "Rampage" Jackson, 2 weeks from now.
